Warby Parker was created by four grad students who felt that the cost of prescription eyewear was far too expensive. The expensive, name brand lines are priced very high due to the grip that Luxottica has on the eyewear industry. Estimated to bring in $7 Billion annually, Luxottica is responsible for designing and retailing most of the high-end eyewear brands on the market.
Warby Parker’s owners saw a problem with that and decided to make an attempt at disrupting the status quo in eyewear design, production and retailing. Two of the four owners talk about the market disruption and their bigger purpose.
