On May 15, 2013, 303 volunteers from Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy (MMBDA), Marriott International, organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the community came together to build a new playground at MMBDA. The new playground’s design is based on drawings created by children who participated in a Design Day event in March. The new playground will provide more than 720 children in the community with a safe place to play. The old playground, which was outdated in fallen into despair, was in dire need of replacement. The school is responsible for the playground’s upkeep. The playground will be open to the community during non-school hours. To learn more about MMBDA, visit www.mmbethune.org.
